Panic is an unfamiliar feeling. You have never succumbed to it. You have never been defeated by fear. Your mind is instead a collection of good sense and far better courage — a necessity for any mother, you’re sure. There is no reason to give in to worry. There is no need to become a victim of fate. Instead you seek always to maintain your judgment, offering the wisdom that so many fail to give. You will always be in control and you will always be without hesitation.
That promise fails spectacularly, however, when you’re child suffers a sudden injury. All of your plans and sensible declarations falter; all of your intentions dissolve. You’re left instead with a terrible sensation, one you can’t quite recall — helplessness.
Accidents are an unfortunate part of childhood. Young bodies aren’t always aware of their motions, the requirements of gravity; and complications can occur. You had always thought your family to be immune to such things but they aren’t — and you must be ready then to combat them.
A first aid kit is necessary for all homes. Having the appropriate medications and healing tools can be the difference between soothing a small problem or leaving it to turn into a sudden concern. Many household injuries can resolved through simple assistance, if individuals act quickly and take the proper precautions:
One: Identify the problem. Don’t let the sight of blood or bruises leave you unable to think clearly. Understand what the issue is and decide then how to address it.
Two: Administer aid. Use your kit to offer the necessary help. Clean, disinfect and bandage all wounds.
Three: Monitor afflictions. Never assume your assistance was enough. Even small injuries can become infected if not properly treated. Be certain to do daily observations of the wound and be certain it is healing.
It’s easy to panic when your child is harmed. It’s essential, however, to be prepared for all possibilities.
