Representation for EU nurses helps to protect and support health care professionals.
The organization largely responsible for the representation of nurses in the European Union is the Standing Committee of Nurses of the EU, or PCN. The PCN networks with other organizations and governmental bodies (chiefly the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe) and lobbies on professional issues which European nurses encounter on a daily basis, from workplace safety to continuing education.
More about the Standing Committee of Nurses of the EU
This organization was founded in 1971 and has since largely influenced changes and developments in the nursing field within Europe. The PCN is considered an independent voice, as it is not associated with any particular branch, expertise, concentration, legislation, or institution. Membership exceeds one million nurses and is drawn from the European Union, while associate members are derived from countries within the Council of Europe. The mission of the PCN is to, “safeguard the status and practice of the profession of nursing and the interests of nurses in the EU and Europe.”
